Music activates, inspires, and stimulates emotional expression. Music relaxes, calms the nervous system and is helpful in restoring internal balance. Music connects us to ourselves and to others. Music is life affirming.
The developmental, emotional, psychological and social needs of children and adults are addressed through active music-making in a relationship with a music therapist. The Conservatory offers the services of master’s degree level,
certified music therapists with New York State creative arts licenses.
These professionals are trained multi-instrumentalists with specialties that
include psychology, special education and other related fields.

An initial intake session is scheduled to assess the strengths and needs of each client and to determine placement. Sessions are scheduled on an individual basis to best meet the needs of clients and families.
Limited financial assistance is available. A discounted rate is also available to families who elect to work with our clinical intern. All clinical interns are in their last year of an AMTA approved university music therapy program and are supervised by the Music Therapy director. Our Music Therapy Outreach program partners with schools, after school programs, agencies and organizations to provide quality, credentialed music therapists for their students and clients. For infants and toddlers, we offer morning music therapy sessions with a credentialed music therapist who specializes in Early Intervention. Music Therapy has been shown to be a fun and non-threatening way to support early intervention goals, to improve bonding with parents and caretakers and to foster cognitive development. Parental instruction on how to use music at home is offered.
Children and adults who show an interest in learning to play an instrument, but who need extra support, can benefit from studying with a music therapist. We offer individual adaptive music instruction on piano, guitar, and violin. Please contact Anne DeWan at 718-622-3300 ext. 212 and .
Everyone can benefit from exposure to and participation in music! These monthly wellness-based music workshops target diverse, enriching ways to use music to relieve stress, expand creativity and to learn how to use musical and vocal expression to improve health and wellbeing. This series is for non-musicians, musicians and music therapists alike. No experience is necessary; we’ll find common ground and learn from one another. Individual workshops: $20 each, six workshops package: $100
