PRESCHOOL
MUSIC ADVENTURES
Exposure to music at a young age plays an important role in developing a life-long appreciation of the arts. Preschoolers can enroll in Music Adventures, an innovative program that encourages creative expression through music, dance and related arts including painting, story-telling and acting. Each class is limited in size and is age specific.
The "Music Adventures" program has been praised by leading authorities on children's education. Lillian Yaross, former president of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, said the Music Adventures program "reflected a serious commitment to music education for the young child as an exciting and challenging experience." She added it "was one of the best programs I had seen in the U.S."
"Music Adventures embodies a uniquely effective curriculum for teaching young children basic musical concepts," said Joseph Straus, the President for the Society for Music Theory. "The Music Adventures curriculum is evidently one that works well for the broadest possible range of children."
The Music Adventures curriculum utilizes techniques drawn from Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze teaching strategies, and stresses the physical and rhythmic aspects of music. We seek to encourage creative expression through music and other related arts, including dance, painting, story-telling and acting. Children develop rhythmic, listening and motor skills through a variety of singing, clapping and movement games.

SUZUKI
The Conservatory will begin offering Suzuki violin and piano lessons beginning in the fall of 2005.
The Suzuki Method works on the principal that every child has the capacity to develop musical ability during the early years. A child learns music in much the same way the "mother tongue" language is learned.
The parent's role is vital in the development of early learning ability; parents attend lessons with their children and help with practic at home. Young students enrolled in the Suzuki Program at the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music receive private and group lessons each week. At least one parent must be present at each session. Parents learn the basics of the instrument with their children and need not know anything about music prior to enrollment.
Interested parents should call the Conservatory at 718-622-3300 for more information.
