HENSY PEREZ Guitar, Bass – Upright and Electric Hensy was born in Cali, Colombia. He holds a B.A. in music education from the University of Valle (1983-Colombia) and obtained a Masters degree in Music Theory with a major in jazz bass from City College in 2000. During his studies at City College, he learned bass from Todd Coolman and Ron Corter, and orchestration from David Deltredicci. Hensy’s background includes classical guitar at the Institute of Popular Culture of Cali and piano at University of Valle as well as harmony, counterpoint and composition with Leon J. Simar. As a Latin musician Hensy has followed many interests studying bass, harmony and Latin jazz at Boy’s Harbor Performing Arts Center (1992) with previously having toured extensively in Colombia, Miami, Houston, Chicago, San Francisco and New York City with salsa and Latin jazz bands. Currently teaching guitar, bass, music theory and music reading at Brooklyn, Queens Conservatory of Music and at after school programs through the city. Past teaching experience includes: leading instrument making workshops, teaching music theory and reading, guitar and developing student orchestra and chorus to children and adults, public schools and privately in Cali and New York City. Mr. Perez has played with different groups in NYC and he is one of the founders and writers of Grupo Irek, currently performing at night clubs, private parties, street festivals, and charity events. He has appeared on New York City and Chicago television shows.
